During the briefing of US Deputy Spokesperson of the US Secretary of State Vedant Patel, the journalist tried to find out what US officials are doing regarding the South Caucasus. Ambassador Bono was in the region, conducting negotiations in Baku and Yerevan, Assistant Deputy Secretary of State Erika Olson has just finished her meetings in Azerbaijan.
Patel, the first deputy press secretary of the US State Department, said that he had nothing new to say about the region. He once again reminded that ensuring a cessation of hostilities between Armenia and Azerbaijan, specifically in the Nagorno-Karabakh region, continues to be of great importance to Secretary Blinken.
“He [US State Secretary] had the opportunity to meet with the leaders of these countries a number of weeks ago on the margins of the Munich Security Conference. It’s something that we continue to be deeply engaged on. It’s something that Mr. Bono continues to be engaged on in addition to others in this department as well. But I just don’t have any specific updates to offer,” Patel stated.
