Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda delivered a joint press conference following their meeting in Vilnius.
President Khachaturyan said in his remarks that Armenia attaches high importance to the continuous development and strengthening of relations with friendly Lithuania and all prerequisites for this exist, the Armenian president's office said in a press release.
He highly appreciated the opportunity to meet his Lithuanian counterpart, as well as the prime minister and speaker of parliament to discuss the bilateral agenda, as well as the Armenia-EU cooperation and the regional situation.
“The intensity of high level meetings of the past years shows the bilateral commitment to further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in all directions. Armenia is ready to take practical steps for further strengthening and intensifying the Armenian-Lithuanian bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, and I think that sufficient potential exists for that. Today, we had comprehensive discussions with President Nausėda in a sincere atmosphere, which encompass the most various areas of bilateral cooperation, such as IT, renewable energy, healthcare, environmental protection, communications, transport, humanitarian issues and so on. We agreed to continue our dialogue in the same spirit, in the direction of deepening multilateral cooperation. We addressed the Armenia-EU partnership agenda and projects carried out as part of it. Lithuania is one of our important EU partners and we attach high importance to the effective partnership between our countries as part of the Armenia-EU partnership,” the Armenian President said.
The presidents also discussed security issues and other issues of regional significance. Armenia’s efforts aimed at establishing lasting peace in the region were discussed. In this context President Khachaturyan emphasized the need to preserve the Armenian cultural monuments in Artsakh and in territories under Azerbaijani control.
“We concur with the Lithuanian President that a comprehensive resolution to all conflicts is possible only peacefully, in line with principles of international law. I am sure that the discussed issues will have results, and convey new quality and content to the Armenian-Lithuanian relations,” President Khachaturyan said.
President Gitanas Nausėda stressed readiness to develop and deepen the multi-layered cooperation between Lithuania and Armenia. He attached importance to effective cooperation both bilaterally and within the EU platform.
The Lithuanian president noted that one of the results of the cooperation is the deployment of the EU monitoring mission on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
