The RA NA Vice President Hakob Arshakyan received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova Valeriu Chiveri on April 14.
The Head of the NA Armenia-Moldova Friendship Group Arpine Davoyan and the member of the group Vigen Khachatryan attended the meeting.
Welcoming the Ambassador in Parliament, Hakob Arshakyan congratulated Valeriu Chiveri on his appointment as Ambassador and expressed conviction that the latter will promote the development of Armenian-Moldovan relations with his activity.
Speaking about the inter-parliamentary cooperation, Hakob Arshakyan emphasized the close work of Friendship Groups.
Touching upon the friendly relations between the two peoples, the NA Vice President underlined the presence of two Armenian churches in Chi ș inău, the Sunday school, and a twelve thousand Armenian community living and working in Moldova.
Hakob Arshakyan drew the Ambassador’s attention to regional security and existing threats. “Unfortunately, the situation in the Lachin Corridor remains the same. Free movement through the Corridor should be restored as soon as possible. The blocking of the Lachin Corridor is a gross violation of international law and the trilateral statement of November 9 and an existential threat to the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh,” the NA Vice President noted and added that on April 11, a group of servicemen of the Azerbaijani armed forces illegally deployed in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia carried out a provocation and opened fire in the direction of the servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces and positions. It was mentioned that the servicemen of the RA Armed Forces answered back and defended our sovereign territory. Hakob Arshakyan stated that there are four casualties and six wounded among the Armenian servicemen.
“The use of force and the threat of it are an integral part of the state policy of Azerbaijan, the aim of which is to destabilize the situation in the region and undermine the efforts of mediation partners to continue the peace negotiations,” the NA Vice President underscored and called on the international community, including all partners who are concerned about the stability and peace in the region, to take purposeful and effective steps against the aggressive actions of Azerbaijan and prevent further escalation of the situation.
Expressing gratitude for the reception, the Ambassador noted that he is informed about the current security situation in the region. “Ukraine is the focus of the world’s attention at the moment, but we should not ignore the situation in this region,” Valeriu Chiveri underlined. He also emphasized the deepening of inter-parliamentary cooperation, noting that there is great potential for cooperation in various spheres.
