Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has said that Russia is making efforts to end the blockade of the Lachin Corridor. She said that the Russian Defense Ministry, together with the peacekeeping contingent’s command in Nagorno-Karabakh and the Russian Foreign Ministry, are making efforts in this direction.
“Our Armenian and Azerbaijani colleagues have received detailed proposals on this issue,” Zakharova said at a briefing. “The peacekeepers are solving the food and other essential supply issues of the Karabakh people on the ground. Tens of tons of humanitarian cargo is delivered every day, we are waiting for a swift resolution of the situation with the purpose of normalization of the bilateral Armenian-Azerbaijani relations based on the high-level trilateral agreements,” said Zakharova, answering the question of ‘Lurer’ about the ongoing blockade of the Lachin Corridor.
Zakharova also spoke about Russian FM Sergey Lavrov’s visit to Turkey where the Armenia-Turkey normalization and restoration of regional connections were discussed. She refused to disclose details because the process hasn’t been completed. The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson said Moscow is convinced that normalization between Armenia and Turkey would contribute to the establishment of stability in the region.
“We support the restoration of dialogue between Yerevan and Ankara based on mutual respect. As you recall, it started with our direct mediation in January of 2022. We are sure that such [rapprochement], if you will, would contribute to the regeneration of the general situation in the South Caucasus and would have noticeable contribution in establishing long-term stability in the region,” she said, adding that Moscow stands ready to provide further support.
