US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed the opinion that a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine is impossible as long as some Ukrainian territories are under Russian control. Blinken called on Moscow to sit at the negotiation table.
“For some, the idea of a ceasefire may be tempting. But now it will practically legalize the seizure of Ukrainian regions. In this case, there can be no just and lasting peace,” explained the Secretary of State.
Speaking about the Russian-Ukrainian conflict during a meeting with his Turkish counterpart in Ankara yesterday, the Russian Foreign Minister noted that Russia does not refuse negotiations, but they are possible only if the interests of the Russian side are taken into account.
“Declarations are coming from Kyiv, Washington, Brussels that military operations should not be stopped. At the same time, we are being asked to stop the war and sit down at the negotiation table. This is an unfair game,” said Sergey Lavrov.
