Turkey's Los Angeles Consul General Sinan Kuzum sent a letter to the city council regarding the planned Armenian Genocide Monument in Irvine, California, VOA Turksih service reports. On February 28, the Irvine City Council unanimously approved the erection of a genocide memorial at the initiative of the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) and the Armenian community.
“I am aware that history, with its painful memories, plays an important role in our current relationships. But do we prefer to engage in dialogue for a better future or to turn a blind eye to peace efforts and lay the blame on each other? The duty of policy makers is to have a visionary approach to building good neighborly relations. This is what we are doing now in our homeland. The diaspora and third parties should also follow it,” said Kuzum.
There was no response from the Irvine City Council to the letter of Turkey's Los Angeles Consul General Sinan Kuzum, which appeared in the Armenian press.
