Sweden's cooperation with Turkey in the fight against terrorism is a necessary condition for Ankara's approval of Sweden's NATO accession, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said after meeting with his Swedish counterpart Tobias Billström.
“At the meeting with my Swedish colleague Billström, we reminded him of the necessary steps to be taken to join NATO. Results-oriented cooperation in countering terrorism is mandatory,” Çavuşoğlu tweeted.
Sweden and Finland applied to join the North Atlantic Alliance in May 2022, but Turkey blocked their accession process, demanding that they list Kurdish organizations as terrorists.
