On March 30 in Valletta President of Malta George Vella received Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of the first bilateral official high-level visit from Armenia to Malta since the establishment of interstate relations and expressed confidence that it will give a new impetus to the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, issues of cooperation between Armenia and Malta on multilateral platforms were also discussed. The interlocutors touched upon the Armenia-EU expanding partnership. Ararat Mirzoyan stressed the EU's continued support for strengthening democracy and implementation of an ambitious reform agenda in Armenia.
The interlocutors also focused on regional security issues. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia briefed the President of Malta on the security situation in the South Caucasus and the recent developments in the normalization process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.
Minister Mirzoyan stressed the importance of unblocking the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan without any preconditions, demonstrating a constructive approach to key issues on the rights and security of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh and fulfilling commitments by Azerbaijan instead of warmongering rhetoric and provocations.
