Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock discussed the fruitful cooperation between Georgia and Germany in various fields, Georgia’s progress toward European integration, and the dynamics of implementing EC’s recommendations during the meeting on Friday. Irakli Garibashvili thanked the Minister for Germany’s political and practical support in the European integration process, as well as its support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Georgian Public TV reports.
“The head of government noted that Germany has constantly played an essential role in Georgia’s institutional and socioeconomic transformation. He also emphasized that Georgia is a reliable partner and ally of the European Union in the region and beyond, and will continue to play a constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili discussed Georgia’s EU integration process-related issues with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. At the meeting in the Orbeliani Presidential Palace, President said that the Georgian people would not be able to accept the second refusal and would feel abandoned by Europe.
President Zourabichvili stressed the significance of Germany’s support for Georgia’s European aspirations.In her turn, Annalena Baerbock said she wanted to see Georgia and Georgian people in the EU.
We want to see Georgia in the European Union, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said in her remarks to the press following the meeting with her Georgian counterpart on Friday. Georgia, as the Minister emphasized, has friends in Brussels and Berlin on whom it can count.
“The place of Georgian people is in the EU. Therefore, I came to Georgia with a specific message: We want to see Georgia in the European Union. We will support you on this path. Georgia has friends in Brussels and Berlin whom it can count on,” Annalena Baerbock said. She reiterated Germany’s support on this path and emphasized the importance of reforms to obtain candidate status, noting that the road to the EU “cannot be shortened, especially in terms of values”. Georgia, according to the Minister, has made great progress in implementing the EC’s 12 priorities.
