The countries of the European Union (EU) - Italy, Greece and Bulgaria - imported natural gas from Azerbaijan for 15 billion 598 million 852 thousand euros in 2022, Eurostat reports.
According to statistics, in 2021, the value of gas imports from Azerbaijan to the EU countries amounted to 3 billion 892 million 233 thousand euros.
Thus, the cost of buying gas in Azerbaijan for 2022 increased by about four times.
In 2022, Italy spent 13 billion 253 million 515 thousand euros on the purchase of gas from Azerbaijan (an increase of about 3.9 times over the year), Greece - 1 billion 962 million 325 thousand euros (an increase of about 4.2 times), Bulgaria - 383 million 11 thousand euros (almost 8 times growth over the year).
As previously reported, in 2022 Azerbaijan increased gas exports by 18% to 22.3 billion cubic meters, supplies to Europe amounted to 11.4 billion cubic meters (+39%).
For 2023, gas exports from Azerbaijan are planned at a level of over 24 billion cubic meters, of which at least 12 billion cubic meters - to Europe.
Currently, buyers of Azerbaijani gas in Europe are Italy, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania.
