During the meeting between the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Armenia Lavrov and Mirzoyan, the Armenian Foreign Minister referred to the tension of the situation in the region.
“The situation in the region is becoming more tense against the background of the aggressive rhetoric of the top leadership of Azerbaijan and military provocations not only against Nagorno-Karabakh, but also against the sovereign territory of Armenia. The blocking of Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan in violation of the trilateral, the deliberate interruptions in electricity supply confirm that the official Baku's goal is to carry out ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Against this background, it becomes imperative to fulfill the agreements reached and open the Lachin Corridor, both in accordance with the obligations assumed by the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, and in accordance with the decision of the International Court of Justice of the United Nations against Azerbaijan on February 22.
Unfortunately, practically, there is no trilateral statement provision that Azerbaijan has not violated: continuous violations of the cease-fire regime, occupation of Armenia’s territory, illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor, detention of Armenian prisoners, obstruction of the opening of regional communications, obstruction of the return of Armenian residents in the territories under Azerbaijan's control.
Moreover, the Azerbaijani side torpedoes the efforts to establish stable and lasting peace in the region with continuous provocations. In this context, I would like to emphasize the taking of active steps by allies and partners so that Azerbaijan fulfills its obligations and stops its tactics of using force and threatening to use force,” said Ararat Mirzoyan.
