The Khanoba customs post on the border of Azerbaijan and Russia has been put into operation. Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia and Azerbaijan Alexey Overchuk and Shahin Mustafayev took part in the opening ceremony.
Overchuk noted that Russia is interested in strengthening relations with Azerbaijan. He added: negotiations are also being held with Baku on the issue of railway infrastructure development. “This project will unite Russia, Azerbaijan, Iran and the Persian Gulf,” Overchuk emphasized.
In April 2020, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, allocated $2.4 million for the construction of the customs point, and more than $17.6 million were allocated for the reconstruction of the highway between the Khanoba and Samur checkpoints.
According to the information of the Azerbaijani Government, the operation of the customs point will allow speeding up cargo transportation through the North-South international transport corridor, simplifying the border crossing procedures.
