Edmon Marukyan, Armenia’s Ambassador-at-Large, responded to the statement of Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, head of the administration's foreign policy department, regarding the issue of security and rights protection of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians.
“Hajiyev claims there won't be international mechanisms for security and rights of Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians. He insists that it's Azerbaijan's internal affair. I must remind again: fundamental human rights and freedoms, security of thousands of people aren't considered internal issue since WW2,” Marukyan tweeted.
The assistant of the President of Azerbaijan stated that the issue of the rights and security of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh is purely an internal affair of Azerbaijan, and it will be decided in accordance with the constitution and laws of the republic. "Azerbaijan will not discuss issues related to its sovereignty with another third party, including Armenia," Hajiyev said and added that the creation of an international mechanism for discussing the rights and security of Artsakh Armenians cannot be a condition for Armenia to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.
