At least four people were killed and 16 others were injured in an explosion on Saturday in a cultural center of the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, in the north of Afghanistan. The Al-Jazeera TV channel reported this citing a source in the Afghan government formed by the radical Taliban movement.
As reported by the Al-Arabiya TV channel, the regional police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said that one person was killed in the explosion, five more were injured. "Details will be announced later," he said.
Earlier, the Afghan newspaper Hasht-e Subh reported citing local sources the explosion occurred in the Tabyan Cultural Center, where journalists were supposed to be honored in a meeting. The explosion occurred 11:00 local time (09:30 Moscow time).
As the Afghan television channel Tolo News reported, a number of reporters, religious clerics, and local officials participated in the conference.
Taliban security forces arrived on the scene.
Last Thursday, a terrorist act was committed in the office of the administration of the Balkh province. According to the Al-Arabiya TV channel, the explosion killed the governor of the province and two other people.
