On March 1, the Armenia’s Parliament President Alen Simonyan received the newly elected Ambassador of Mexico to Armenia Eduardo Villegas Megías. He congratulated the Ambassador on assuming the office, wishing him successful cooperation.
During the talk the inter-parliamentary ties were highlighted, detailing the activity of the Parliamentary Friendship Groups.
Speaking about the trade-economic ties, the expansion of legal-contractual field, the RA NA President noted that practical steps are necessary for reaching to an end 5 agreements being in the draft phase regarding the economic, scientific-technical health, criminal-legal spheres.
He expressed his gratitude to all members of the Senate of the United Mexican States, who initiated and adopted the document of recognition and condemnation of the Armenian Genocide on 8 February 2023, adding that he Chamber of Deputies also will make such initiatives.
At the meeting a reference was made to the security issues of the region. Alen Simonyan expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for the statement made by Mexico-Armenia Friendship Group during the aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenia in September 2022, at the same expecting that Mexico will denounce with more targeted and distinct formulations the aggressive actions being committed by Azerbaijan. The NA President highly appreciated the statement made by the representative of Mexico at the urgent meeting of the UN Security Council in December 2022on Lachin Corridor and the position of Mexico, by which a call was made to allow free movement through the Corridor.
The Ambassador noted that he is proud of representing the peace-loving creative people of Mexico, underscoring that his country is ready to make all efforts for peaceful solution of the conflicts.
Concluding his speech, the RA NA President noted that Armenia has no territorial demands towards its neighbors and continues remaining faithful to the agenda of reaching peace.
