From Thursday evening to Friday morning, solidarity campaigns in support of Ukraine were held around the world to mark the first anniversary of the Russian military operation. In different cities of the world, including New York, Brussels, Paris, Tbilisi, buildings and streets were painted in blue-yellow colors.
The Eiffel Tower in Paris was illuminated with those colors; the road section in front of the Russian Embassy to London was painted. Memorial ceremonies and rallies were held on Thursday evening.
Actions dedicated to the one year anniversary of the Russian military operation were also held in many Ukrainian cities.
On the eve of the Russian-Ukrainian war anniversary, the leaders of the EU countries issued a joint statement. It says: "This aggression is a crime against peace, it violates the UN Charter, UN principles and human values. During this one year, the Ukrainian people showed the world that the future of Ukraine should be decided by Ukrainians."
The statement also states that EU countries will continue to support Ukraine as long as it is needed. “Ukraine is a part of our European family, we accepted Ukraine, giving it the status of a candidate country,” the leaders of the EU states said.
The European structure has promised to support the recovery of Ukraine and for this purpose “use the frozen assets of Russia in accordance with EU legislation and international law, while intensifying the joint pressure on Russia to stop the aggression.”
