Azerbaijan has extended quarantine in connection with the coronavirus pandemic - now until May 1. The country's land borders have remained closed for three years. “Azerbaijan today is the only country in the world with officially closed borders,” protested opposition politician Natig Jafarli, JAM News reports.
By the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan, a special quarantine regime in the country in connection with the coronavirus pandemic was extended for another two months, this time until 6 am on May 1, 2023. The last time the quarantine was extended at the end of December - until March 1.
Of all the measures of the special quarantine regime in the country, only one is actually in effect - land borders remain closed. Departure and entry into the country is possible only by air transport. The only exception is the land border with Turkey in Nakhijevan, but it can be crossed only by those citizens of Azerbaijan who have a Nakhijevan residence permit.
All other measures are the requirement of a COVID passport when entering enclosed spaces, wearing masks, etc. are not actually used anywhere.
“The whole world has already renounced such absurd concepts as quarantine, coronavirus, restrictions, officially there is not a single country with closed land borders left in the world, even in Turkmenistan and North Korea the borders are not closed, it is possible to cross borders with special permits. Azerbaijan remains the only country with closed borders,” Natig Jafarli, an opposition politician and one of the leaders of the Republican Alternative party, is indignant.
