In fulfillment of trilateral agreements of Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders, the Russian side consistently contributes to the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, Russia's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on February 22.
She noted that defense ministry in close cooperation are making energetic efforts to resolve the situation around Lachin corridor. Since December 12, in cooperation with charitable organizations, more than 2.5 tons of humanitarian cargo had been delivered, seven humanitarian actions had been carried out in 88 populated settlements and assistance had been provided to more than 8,000 children and 800 poor families.
Zakharova said that they continue the dialogue with Baku and Yerevan in order to resume full operation of the corridor in accordance with the statement of November 9, 2020 and improve the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"No matter how tense the situation in the region is, we consider freezing the negotiations under this pretext counterproductive. Such rhetoric distances the establishment of stability in the South Caucasus," Zakharova said.
She urged her counterparts in Baku and Yerevan to resume joint work as soon as possible, expressing readiness to support the organization of regular meetings of commissions to unblock communications and delimit the border and new rounds of talks on the preparation of a peace treaty at the level of the Foreign Ministers. And also to promote dialogue at the level of civil society, experts and parliamentarians.
