A group of protesters on Tuesday gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Athens to express opposition against U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Greece, Reuters reports.
Holding banners with slogans calling for the closure of foreign military bases in Greece and an end of Greece's participation in the Ukraine conflict, the protesters accused U.S. of meddling in Greece's affairs and pushing the country to get involved in Ukraine conflict.
"They are an imperialist country that puts their nose everywhere. They interfere all across the globe and do imperialism because they are imperialist. And we're against imperialism and in both here in Greece, in Ukraine, in the Middle East everywhere where imperialism happens. And we want to fight against imperialism," said a protester.
"Blinken came in Greece and we are demonstrating against our country's involvement in the war in Ukraine. We want no person from Greece to help this involvement in war," said another protester.
Blinken arrived in Athens on Monday evening where he met with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias to discussed partnership, security and energy issues.
