Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), member of the CCP Politburo Wang Yi arrived in Moscow. He met with the Secretary of Security Council Nikolay Patrushev, Reuters reports. The secretary of Russia's Security Council told China's top diplomat that Beijing was a top priority for Russian foreign policy and that the two countries must stick together against the West, Russian state news agencies reported.
Nikolai Patrushev also told Wang that Moscow backed China's position over Taiwan, Hong Kong and Xinjiang, according to a statement cited by the RIA Novosti news agency.
Wang was also due to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday as part of the visit to Moscow - the latest stop in a European tour - and the Kremlin has not ruled out a possible meeting with Putin.
