According to the latest data, the number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria has reached 47 thousand. The death toll from two major earthquakes that struck southeastern Turkey on Feb 6 has risen to 41,020, the country's disaster agency said Sunday, Reuters reports.
The search and rescue work in the earthquake zone except in Kahramanmaras and Hatay provinces has been completed, the agency said.
The number of aftershocks in Turkey has reached 6,040 after earthquakes hit the country on Feb 6.
Yunus Sezer, head of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), said cash aid of 10,000 Turkish liras (about 531 U.S. dollars) has been given to nearly 800,000 citizens.
More than 6,000 containers have been installed so far, the infrastructure works for the establishment of 68,000 containers are near completion and the aim is to set up 100,000 containers within two months, Sezer said, adding that nearly 250,000 tents were already in use.
In addition, more than 460,000 people have been evacuated so far, with 318,970 victims being hosted in public guesthouses and hotels.
Relevant departments are continuing efforts to evacuate and resettle one million victims.
In a statement, the country's health minister said no infectious diseases have spread in the quake area.
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Türkiye's southern province of Kahramanmaras at 4:17 local time (0117 GMT), followed by a magnitude 6.4 quake a few minutes later in the country's southern province of Gaziantep and a magnitude 7.6 earthquake at 13:24 local time (1024 GMT) in the Kahramanmaras Province.
