The total number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria exceeded 44,000. According to the latest data, around 9,000 people have been killed in Syria. Syrian civil defense forces have announced that they have completed the search and rescue operations.
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a telephone conversation with Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad, welcomed the fact that Damascus agreed to open two additional checkpoints to deliver humanitarian aid to areas not controlled by the Syrian government.
Mekdad noted that the consequences of the earthquake in Syria are more devastating because of the 12-year war against terrorism, the sabotage activities of the militants, as well as the sanctions.
The media reports that aid to the victims of the earthquake in Syria is difficult to reach, as the humanitarian cargo passes through the zones of the conflicting forces.
The number of victims in Turkey exceeds 36,000. More than 81 thousand residents were affected. The President of Turkey stated that after February 6, more than 3000 aftershocks were registered in Turkey.
