The death toll from Monday's devastating earthquakes climbed to 20,318 in Turkey, while another 80,052 injuries were reported in the country, Turkish disaster response department announced early Saturday, Reuters reports.
In Syria, 1,387 were killed and 2,326 injured in government-controlled areas, according to the government health department.
Rescuers at areas under the control of anti-government forces reported 2,037 deaths and over 2,950 injures. The numbers are expected to climb.
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck Turkey's southern province of Kahramanmaras at 04:17 local time on Monday, followed by a magnitude 6.4 quake a few minutes later in the country's southern province of Gaziantep and a magnitude 7.6 earthquake at 13:24 local time in Kahramanmaras.
