Today, Armenia’s CEC (Central Electoral Commission) Chairman hosted Michael Henning, USAID Europe and Eurasia Office Senior Political Process Advisor, and Democracy, Human Rights and Governance Advisor at USAID Anahit Khachatryan, the Central Electoral Commission reports.
CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan thanked the guests at the beginning of the meeting, emphasizing the role of USAID in the development of Armenia's democracy.
He agreed with Michael Henning's observation that the Armenian elections held in recent years were positively evaluated by the international community, but successful elections are not a guarantee for the irreversibility of democracy.
“From this point of view, it is very important for us to develop the capabilities of the electoral system in such a way that democracy becomes an irreversible reality in Armenia and successful elections become a common phenomenon. This is the mission of the CEC formed last year,” added Vahagn Hovakimyan.
During the meeting, CEC vision and priorities were discussed, and USAID representatives expressed their readiness to support CEC programs.
