During the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia has asked CSTO to adjust its area of responsibility in Armenia.
“In the case of the CSTO, we formulated a problem very clearly, because the CSTO has documents with very detailed descriptions, including the regulation on response to crisis situations, which was adopted back in 2010, where actions are clearly written, but at the same time there is a clear understanding and concept of CSTO area of responsibility.
We have asked the CSTO for one of the most important principled things: to specify the area of responsibility of the CSTO in Armenia, that is, to tell us their idea of what Armenia is. We have not received a clear answer to this question.
On the other hand, why did the mission of the EU civil mission become possible, because as a result of the quadrilateral meeting held in Prague, the EU, with the participation and agreement of Armenia and Azerbaijan, clearly outlined what Armenia is. They come to monitor the area.
Without an idea of the area, an observation mission would be at least strange, because it is not clear to them what they are observing. The issue arose from the situation when Azerbaijan occupied the territories of Armenia. If any mission does not know what the territory of Armenia is, how will it consider whether the territory of Armenia is occupied or not,” said Pashinyan.
Pashinyan added that before the sending of the EU mission, Azerbaijan explained its aggressive actions against Armenia on Western platforms by the fact that Armenia is deploying more and more Russian troops on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and is preparing a joint Armenian-Russian aggressive attack against Azerbaijan, while Azerbaijan is trying is to balance the situation and manage its vulnerability.
“In the West, an attempt was made to present Armenia as a participant in Russia's aggressive policy, and in the Russian Federation, an attempt was made to present Armenia as a participant in the Western conspiracy,” said Pashinyan.
