During my last press conference, I referred in detail to the statements of the President of Azerbaijan. I think that these statements have a certain provocative nature. They aim to create escalation, and our correct response to these statements is that stability in the region should be a certain factor. During the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to the question of Davit Danielyan, MP of the ‘Civil Contract’ faction, regarding the recent statements of the President of Azerbaijan.
“We declare very clearly that we are ready to sign a peace treaty based on the Prague agreements. These statements, in fact, contradict the agreements reached in the first place. The perception of the international community seems to be increasing. Why? Because it becomes obvious to people that those statements regarding the Lachin Corridor directly violate the international obligations assumed by Azerbaijan, i.e. these are the situations that I think should increase the perception of the international community in this regard. The best way to keep the situation stable in the region is through negotiations and political solutions, and as we have assumed our readiness and responsibility, we are ready to continue in the same way.
It is obvious, and the international community also records it, that the blockade of the Lachin Corridor and the aggressive statements of Azerbaijan create new obstacles for the peace process.
But there is a question - who said that this is not what Azerbaijan wants, and who said that this is not the long-term goal, that by such provocative statements in general and by using our possible reactions, to completely abort the peace process?
That is why we should not change the formula and method of our attitude, and I am more convinced of the truth of that method. Our reaction to all that should be asymmetric. What is asymmetric response? First, active international diplomacy and the strengthening and establishment of institutional capacities and state institutions within the country, not deviating from the agenda of reforms, not deviating from the agenda of peace and not giving up - this should be our response,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
