Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan said that since 2018 it has been his administration’s position that it’s not up to the Government of Armenia to determine the fate of Nagorno Karabakh.
“Today our objective is to support so that the people, the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh continue to live in Nagorno Karabakh, continue being Armenians, consider themselves Armenian, Karabakhis, Artsakhis, and have the opportunity to live in a safe environment. Generally, since 2018 our position was that the Government of Armenia is not the one to determine the fate and relations of Nagorno Karabakh. The people of Nagorno Karabakh themselves must determine and be in communication, including with Azerbaijani authorities,” Pashinyan said at a press conference, Armenpress reports.
Armenia prioritizes the issue of ensuring the security and rights of the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh and will support by all available means the decision of the people of Nagorno Karabakh on the resolution of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a press conference when asked to present Armenia’s official position regarding the status of Nagorno Karabakh.
“We consider the issue of ensuring the security and rights of the Armenians of Nagorno Karabakh to be a priority, and we attach importance for the people of Nagorno Karabakh to be the entity who will speak about all these topics. They must make decisions and we will support them by all available means. Today we ensure humanitarian, financial issues, we will support with whatever we can. This is our stance,” Pashinyan said.
According to PM Pashinyan, one of the issues that had significant impact on developments was that Armenia had sidelined representatives of Nagorno Karabakh from the negotiations process and made decisions instead of them. “No, we can’t decide instead of them. We must deal with issues of Armenia’s relations, and representatives of Nagorno Karabakh must deal with the issue of Nagorno Karabakh, and we must support them,” Pashinyan said.
