The Lemkin Institute is concerned that electricity in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) may be cut. Such a possibility makes clear the vulnerability of Armenians in Artsakh to the genocidal regime of Azerbaijani President in Azerbaijan. The world must act immediately to prevent a second Armenian Genocide.
“Azerbaijan has blockaded the Republic of Artsakh for 23 days. 120 000 people are stranded and surrounded by a hostile state. Tonight (January 3) electricity has been going on and off, which fears it is being cut by Azerbaijani authorities.
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has promoted genocidal ideology against Armenians for a decade, instilling in Azeris a hatred of Armenians that is expressed through violence and atrocity crimes.
Azerbaijan must be sanctioned. UN peacekeepers must be stationed on the blocked road to protect Armenians and ensure the free flow of people and goods, and all military aid to Azerbaijan must be stopped immediately.
The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention believes that all nations and organizations complicit in this genocide should be prosecuted,” the organization’s Twitter post reads.
