Reuters. French President Emmanuel Macron and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson reaffirmed their support for Ukraine as they met on Tuesday (January 3) in Paris.
The Swedish leader chose Paris for his first trip abroad after Sweden on Sunday (January 1) took the presidency of the European Union for six months.
"We will talk about our determination to keep on answering the Russian aggression of Ukraine as winter sets in and Ukrainians need our support now more than ever," Macron said, while Kristersson stressed that "Ukrainian victory is existential for Europe and for the entire world."
Both leaders also discussed Sweden's application to join NATO, along with its neighbour Finland's. Macron said he wished to see the bid succeed "as soon as possible."
Nuclear energy was another item Macron and Kristersson were set to go over.
Sweden could potentially buy nuclear reactors from France to beef up its energy supply, the Swedish prime minister was quoted as saying earlier on Tuesday.
