At the beginning of the Government session, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan touched on the topic of closing the Lachin Corridor.
What is Russia's assessment of the situation and what is its plan to restore movement through the Lachin Corridor? According to Pashinyan, the public of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh are interested in the answers to these questions.
In his speech, the Prime Minister also reminded that Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council.
“If Russia, for objective or subjective reasons, is unable to ensure stability and security in Nagorno-Karabakh, I think that it should initiate a discussion in the UN Security Council and raise the issue of endowing the Russian peacekeeping force with a UNSC mandate in Nagorno-Karabakh or sending an additional multinational peacekeeping military contingent to Nagorno-Karabakh,” Pashinyan said.
According to the Prime Minister, such a question arises because the closure of the Lachin Corridor is not the first case of Azerbaijan invading the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping force in Nagorno-Karabakh.
“This was preceded by the events of Parukh in March 2022 and the events of Khtsaberd in December 2020, as a result of which around 3 dozen citizens of the Republic of Armenia continue to remain captive,” said Pashinyan.
