The National Assembly in the second reading and fully adopted the package of draft laws ‘On Foreign Intelligence Activities and Foreign Intelligence Service’ and the package of draft laws submitted.
The Foreign Intelligence Service will be established as a body of the state administration system subordinate to Armenia’s Prime Minister.
The need to create a foreign intelligence service stems from the need to increase the effectiveness of foreign intelligence and counter-intelligence activities.
It is stated in the rationale that the establishment of the Foreign Intelligence Service will not only contribute to increasing the operational efficiency of the National Security Service, giving an opportunity to focus on the areas of counter-intelligence and combating terrorism, but will also help to respond more flexibly and adequately to the challenges of the changing world and region.
