Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov held bilateral talks in Moscow today.
Earlier, the Russian diplomatic service expressed regret that Yerevan is not participating in the meeting of foreign ministers scheduled for December 23 to discuss the preparation of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“We had prepared for this event, but, unfortunately, at the last moment, our Armenian partners refused to come to Moscow, explaining it by the situation on the ground,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and added that the discussions on the issue of the peace treaty will continue during the bilateral meeting.
In response, the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister said that Baku and Moscow always use the opportunity to hold a bilateral meeting.
Hunanyan, the spokesperson of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, announced yesterday that the Armenian side confirmed its readiness to participate in the meeting in Moscow about 2 weeks ago, before the illegal blocking of the Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan. Based on the situation, the Armenian side asked to postpone the meeting scheduled in Moscow.
“Obviously, the work priority of Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan at the moment is the unimpeded restart of the Lachin Corridor in accordance with the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, and the addressing of the problems created as a result of the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh,” said the press secretary.
Hunanyan also informed that regardless of the circumstances of the meeting, Armenia's new proposals regarding the document on the normalization of relations were passed to Azerbaijan, as a sign of the constructiveness of the Armenian side in the process of normalization of relations with Azerbaijan.
