Vice Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan says he has information that the official communiqué with the results of the December 20 UN Security Council meeting is currently being prepared.
“It was said in the beginning of the session that there is a draft press release which had to be discussed. I have information that it is now under discussion, and we will see what the results will be,” Rubinyan told reporters.
He said that the UNSC meeting was a success and that almost all countries stated that the unlawful blockade of Lachin Corridor must be lifted and called on Azerbaijan to adhere to the 9 November 2020 trilateral statement’s terms which stipulate the uninterrupted connection between Artsakh and Armenia through the Lachin Corridor.
The Azeri representative had falsely claimed that Azerbaijan has not closed the Lachin Corridor and that other countries are interested in that situation. Asked who the Azeri envoy was referring to, Rubinyan said that the Azeri envoy was referring to Russia. “That’s a fake propaganda narrative by Azerbaijan which they use in various platforms. By the way, in this specific case the Azerbaijani representative was speaking in the UN Security Council and that’s why they didn’t directly say that they accuse Russia. They are explicitly accusing in other platforms, but naturally it is false, and the Lachin Corridor is illegally blocked by Azerbaijan,” Rubinyan said.
According to Rubinyan, international pressure on Azerbaijan should be increased as much as possible.
"It became obvious from yesterday's session that this pressure has really increased and is increasing. Nagorno-Karabakh and the Nagorno-Karabakh issue are becoming international again, it is the result of Azerbaijan's illegal steps. You saw that representatives of all countries used the name Nagorno-Karabakh, contrary to Azerbaijan's claims,” Rubinyan added.
