Emmanuel Macron visited the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier, stationed off the coast of Egypt on Monday, for a traditional Christmas party with the troops.
The head of state flew directly from Doha to Egypt to board the French navy's flagship vessel.
Emmanuel Macron will express his "confidence" and "support" for the armed forces to the sailors of the aircraft carrier on Monday evening and will be "briefed" on the mission of the Charles de Gaulle, the Elysee said.
Macron was due to spend the night aboard the steel giant before heading to Jordan on Tuesday.
