Armenia’s Ambassador-at-Large Edmon Marukyan stresses the need for creation of an international mechanism for the negotiations between the representatives of Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan, otherwise, he says, the problem with the Lachin Corridor and other issues will continue.
“You know that in the past the representatives of Azerbaijan visited Sarsang Reservoir, and no such incident has been registered, the Lachin Corridor has not been closed and they visited because they have cooperated with the authorities of Artsakh. What Armenia says is that the creation of an international mechanism, which has already been discussed by the international community, is urgent and important, which will be an opportunity of talk between Baku and Stepanakert.
During our works with the international community we are pushing forward the thesis that the issue needs a long-term solution, otherwise these issues will continue, and the international mechanism for the negotiations, communication between the representatives of Nagorno Karabakh and the representatives of Azerbaijan, for addressing questions to each other, has no alternative”, Marukyan told reporters today.
He said that from the very first moments of the closure of the Lachin Corridor, Armenia has been working with all the international partners so that they pressure Azerbaijan that the agreements of November 9 are being violated and that they must be fulfilled.
“In particular, it’s the duty of Azerbaijan to ensure the normal and secure operation of the Lachin Corridor.
The international reactions didn’t happen by chance, they are a result of work. You are also aware that the Minister of Foreign Affairs is in New York participating in an event organized by India where numerous meetings are taking place and the situation is being presented”, Marukyan said.
