I am sure that many of those serving in the Lachin Corridor today bear the memory of the Leningrad blockade and understand very well where the policy of Azerbaijani provocation is leading. Vladimir Vardanyan, member of the NA ‘Civil Contract’ faction, Chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs, said about this at the discussion of the draft of the NA ‘On the Humanitarian Crisis Caused by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh’.
“From a legal point of view, I must say that this is a very harsh statement: in the statement, the National Assembly accuses the state, which is a party to the Genocide Convention, of preparing genocide, which is a separate crime in itself.
The statement speaks of both the need to prevent a humanitarian disaster and the imperatives that need to be implemented so that the world does not face another humanitarian tragedy. However, I want to return to the roots of the UN Charter, which spoke not so much of law as of about morality, and I want the international community to also assess the morality of this behavior.
I would like the world's religious leaders, public figures, people who present a series of resolutions for the violated rights of one person, for example in PACE, people who try to organize large rallies to protect some category of people. A whole nation is facing the danger of genocide, moreover, it is standing neither in Africa nor in Asia, it is standing in the part of the Council of Europe, and this moral assessment must be given.
Once again, I must call on all leaders and people whose voices are louder than mine or ours to prevent one of the greatest tragedies of the 21st century. Because let's be very honest with each other; everything leads to the fact that we have nothing but another genocide, the consequences of which will be irreversible not only for the Armenian people, but also for the entire international community,” Vardanyan said.
