On October 31, at the Sochi summit, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia confirmed their commitment to the steady observance of the November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021 trilateral agreements, which, together with the announcement on the results of the Sochi meeting, form the road map for the complex regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. Denis Gonchar, director of the fourth department of the CIS countries of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said this in an interview with TASS.
“Once again, I would like to emphasize the key role of the Russian peacekeeping force in ensuring security in the area of its deployment. This was emphasized by the leaders of the three countries at the Sochi summit and emphasized the need for the efforts of our peacekeepers to stabilize the situation in the region,” he added.
Referring to the unblocking of transportation routes in the region, the diplomat noted that at the meeting of the trilateral working group held in Moscow on December 6, issues of railway construction, development of railway communication and organization of transportation between the three countries and in the region were discussed in detail.
In addition, Gonchar informed that Russia is working on the expansion of the Verin Lars border checkpoint.
"The Georgian side is modernizing the road infrastructure, including the construction of a tunnel under the Krestov pass, we are expanding the Verin Lars checkpoint. The profile services are coordinating their actions in order not to allow a decrease in the capacity of this transport artery,” the diplomat added.
