The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, considered unacceptable the fact that there are Armenian schools in Iran, but there are no Azerbaijani schools.
“There are 340 schools in Azerbaijan where teaching is carried out in Russian. There are also 10 Georgian schools in the republic. There are 116 Azerbaijani schools in Georgia. In Iran, there are schools where teaching is carried out in Armenian, but there are no schools where classes are in Azerbaijani. How can this happen?” said Aliyev.
Aliyev added: "We raise the issue of teaching in the Azerbaijani language in Iranian schools, because otherwise the Iranian Azeris, who speak their native language, lose the literary component of the language, the Azerbaijani language remains only at the household level.”
