Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the summit of the leaders of the CSTO countries that the efforts aimed at the comprehensive solution of the acute problems of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement require additional attention.
“Our further attention is required, and I agree with my colleagues who spoke earlier about this issue and the efforts to achieve a comprehensive settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. Of course, these are sensitive issues that require our attention,” Putin said during the meeting.
He added that the trilateral negotiations held in Sochi at the end of October between the leaders of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan “created a good basis for future compromises on fundamental issues.”
“It is important that the joint statement fixed the commitment at a high level to the agreements reached earlier in 2020 and 2021, as well as the crucial importance of our joint format of interaction in establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus was emphasized,” the head of the Kremlin noted.
“Only by consistently fulfilling these (previously reached) agreements on delimitation of borders, unblocking of transport communications and humanitarian issues, we can achieve a sustainable settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We hope this will ultimately allow us to conclude a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku,” said Putin. He also noted that he has already addressed the issues he listed in a private conversation with Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and they will be addressed within the framework of the Yerevan meeting.
