Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan revealed the latest developments in the negotiations for a peace treaty with Azerbaijan.
Speaking in parliament during questions time, PM Pashinyan said that Armenia handed over its proposals regarding the peace treaty to Azerbaijan in Washington D.C.
“The Republic of Armenia conveyed to the Azerbaijani side our proposals related to the peace treaty in Washington. We are waiting for Azerbaijan’s reactions. In terms of reactions, nevertheless we also see certain trends of tensions and this tension is connected also with concrete developments and situations,” the Prime Minister said.
He added that Armenia’s position is clear: Azerbaijan must pull back its troops from occupied territories of Armenia to the initial positions before 11 May 2021.
“Essentially the international community supports our position. We hope that the CSTO will also support our position. Of course, the situation is strange, because it seems that it should have been the opposite, CSTO should have clearly defended, we should have worked with our other partners to build a position, but now we have the exact opposite. I hope that we will record this consensus during the CSTO summit to be held in Yerevan.
We do not want to provoke a CSTO-Azerbaijan war, we say that the political position, the record - what is the CSTO's perception of this situation, what is the political position of the CSTO in relation to this situation, is extremely important for us. I think that the attitude of Armenia’s citizens towards the CSTO and the future of our relations will be formed in connection with this issue,” said the Prime Minister.
