Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday (November 16) that he respects Russia's statement that Russian missiles had not hit Polish territory, after a blast in Poland bordering Ukraine killed two people a day earlier.
"The fact that Russia says it has nothing to do with them and that Biden has declared these missiles are not Russian-made, probably shows that Russia is not a part of this incident," Erdogan said at a news conference during the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.
Erdogan said the situation needs to be investigated and that he will speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the phone when he returns to Turkey.
The Western-led push to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine dominated the summit while Russia has said "politicization" of the summit was unfair.
