During the Parliament-Government question-and-answer session, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the question of whether it is possible for the delimitation to be completed before the peace treaty is signed.
“We hoped and there was an understanding that the delimitation of the borders would be completed by the time the peace treaty was signed or entered into force. Now there are indications that maybe that is not so realistic. But on the other hand, there is a solution there as well, with the troop withdrawal scheme, we propose to take the line that actually existed in 1990, carry out a mirror withdrawal of troops, create a monitoring mechanism, not have troops in the border area at all, hand over that entire area to the border guard service, fix the idea of the border line, and then to go to the delimitation process under new calm conditions, which can really last for many years,” said Pashinyan.
As for the peace treaty, Pashinyan mentioned.
“Armenia offers to sign a framework agreement. This is an accepted practice, we should try to go this way.”
Explaining the form of the treaty, Pashinyan noted that in this case the framework is being drawn without much specifics.
