During the discussion of the resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces from the occupied territories of Armenia, the implementation of the cease-fire agreement of November 9, 2020 and the imposition of sanctions against Azerbaijan, the member of the French Senate, Pierre Ouzoulias, began his speech on the topics of Syrian mercenaries in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and Azerbaijan's invasion of the sovereign territory of Armenia.
The Senator pointed out that in the September-November, 2020 war against Artsakh, Syrian and Turkish mercenaries fought as part of the Azerbaijani armed forces. “Even today, the Russian-Ukrainian war allows Azerbaijan to take advantage of the opportunity and advance its borders. Their goal is to have an unhindered connection with Nakhijevan. This is the implementation of the pan-Turkist project, which involves the establishment of a connection from Istanbul to Bishkek.
Azerbaijan’s aggression should be described as a violation of Armenia's sovereign territory. It is unpleasant that the President of the European Commission went to Azerbaijan to sign an agreement on oil and gas, calling Aliyev a “reliable partner”, Pierre Ouzoulias said.
He called not to forget European values and principles, not to replace them with gas and oil.
“Armenia is the mirror of our cowardice and betrayal. We call on the Government to use all our diplomatic arsenal and apply an embargo on purchases from Azerbaijan,” the Senator insisted.
He also noted that Turkey's expansionist plans, as well as aggression against Armenia, Greece and Cyprus, should be prevented in cooperation with Europe and other countries of the world.
