Ukraine will not receive military assistance from Switzerland, Bern refuses to supply any weapon, or participate in arms deals for the supply of ammunition to Kyiv. President Ignazio Cassis stated this.
Switzerland will continue to adhere to a neutral policy, in no way taking part in the conflict in Ukraine, so Kyiv will not teach weapons or ammunition of Swiss production. According to Kassis, the country is under enormous pressure to change its mind, mainly in the area of re-exporting weapons supplied to other European countries to Ukraine. However, this will not happen, the Swiss president added.
“Neither during the First World War, nor even during the Second, we did not export weapons. We will not export weapons, we will not directly or indirectly participate in a military conflict, either in terms of weapons, or in terms of our troops, either in Ukraine, or in Russia, or anywhere else in the world,” Cassis says.
Despite the fact that Bern refused to supply military aid to Kyiv, Switzerland is not an ally of Russia. The ban applies only to military products, otherwise the Swiss, along with the rest of Europe and the United States, oppose Russia. They also imposed anti-Russian sanctions, allocate non-lethal aid to Ukraine and funds. The same Cassis arrived in Kyiv in October to meet with Zelensky to find out how Switzerland can help. In general, neutrality concerns only military actions.
Earlier, Switzerland blocked the transfer by Germany to Ukraine of ammunition for the Gepard ZSU, on which Swiss guns are installed. Also, the Swiss Piranha armored personnel carriers did not reach Ukraine.
