Armenia’s Parliament delegation meetings with high-ranking officials continue in Canada. Hasmik Hakobyan, a member of the ruling majority ‘Civil Contract’ Faction at the Parliament, wrote about this on Facebook.
"Our next meeting was with (Canadian) MP, (Canadian) foreign minister’s parliamentary secretary Robert Oliphant.
In the opening speech, our Canadian colleague emphasized that Armenia's democracy is developing with great strides after the peaceful revolution of 2018, and that Canada is ready to assist Armenia in this matter.
‘Also, by opening the Canadian Embassy in Armenia, Canada is sending a message to the world that it stands with democratic Armenia.’
After discussing various matters aimed at the development of bilateral relations, we gave our interlocutor new information about the latest Azerbaijani [military] aggression. Azerbaijan has occupied territories from the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia. Although we have achieved a fragile ceasefire, Azerbaijan fires at Armenian positions almost every day. As much as the international community does not urge to withdraw the troops, Azerbaijan still has troops accumulated in the RA territory. Azerbaijan does not allow the retrieval of the bodies of Armenian servicemen from the Armenian territories occupied by it, which is an anti-humanist and unacceptable step. Evidence of war crimes committed by Azerbaijan on September 13-15 regularly appears on the internet.
We have emphasized not only the verbal warnings of the international community, democratic countries, but to punish Azerbaijan, which they themselves call an aggressor, with active steps," the Armenian MP added.
