Davit Khazhakyan, Chairman of the management board of the ‘Bright Armenia’ party, presented at the Congress of the Council of Europe the problem of the violated rights of the families displaced from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) as a result of the Azerbaijani aggression, countering the false claims of the Azerbaijani delegate.
“The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, in its concluding observations on reports concerning Azerbaijan, a member of Europe, expressed concern over the incitement of racial hatred and spread of racist stereotypes against Armenians by public figures and state officials on social networks. In the end, all this shows that hate speech is a policy conducted by the highest authorities of Azerbaijan, which becomes especially evident with the statements made by the country's President, who makes threats against an entire province - Syunik.
Congress delegates did not avoid such manifestations either. The head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Anar Ibrahimov, published a photo on his Twitter, distorting the reality. The reality is that the French Embassy, having published the parts of the marked map of Armenia under the threat of Azerbaijan, advised to avoid visits on those days, taking into account the renewed military aggression against Armenia since September 13. Mr. Ibrahimov, calling the regions that are part of the sovereign territory of Armenia by the fictitious names of Azerbaijan, noted that the call of the French Foreign Ministry was aimed at the so-called 1920 borders of Armenia. This is both fake news and a manifestation of aggression.
I urge my colleagues in the Congress to strictly address the hatred expressed, which will not only contribute to the reduction of hate speech, but also to the establishment of peace in the region, which we all strive for,” said Khazhakyan.
