Within the framework of the Valdai discussions, the Russian President also referred to the Karabakh issue and the previous negotiation packages.
According to Vladimir Putin, now a peace treaty is needed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Moscow supports the peaceful settlement, as well as the delimitation of borders and the complete settlement of border issues.
“Which version of the contract to choose is the business of Armenia, the Armenian people and the leadership. In any case, whichever option is chosen, if it leads to peace, we are only for it. But we are not going to and cannot force or dictate anything,” said the Russian President.
According to him, Washington proposes to recognize Azerbaijan’s sovereignty over Karabakh. “If Armenia considers it right, please. If Armenia’s authorities consider that Karabakh has certain characteristics that should be taken into account and included in the future peace treaty, it can be done as well,” Putin said, emphasizing that, in any case, an agreement should be reached with Azerbaijan. According to him, it is a very complicated issue.
