The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands has published the answers of Foreign Minister Wopke Hoekstra to the written questions of one of the deputies, in which an attempt is still made to avoid pointing out Azerbaijan as an aggressor state under the guise of promoting peace, but a number of important points are made. The Federation of Armenian Organizations in the Netherlands (FAON) said on its Facebook page.
The minister particularly emphasized that in fulfillment of the resolution adopted by the Dutch Parliament a year ago, the Netherlands is planning to send observers to Armenia as soon as possible within the framework of the European Union's observation mission.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the commitment of the Dutch government to its calls for an independent investigation into the crimes against Armenian military personnel and civilians, as well as to contribute to peace-promoting measures.
According to the FAON, Wopke Hoekstra informed that Azerbaijan does not receive any support from the Netherlands, either directly or indirectly, and the Netherlands considers the principle of differentiation to be the priority in the support given to Azerbaijan within the framework of the EU. At the same time, it is emphasized that the Netherlands provides support to Armenia in various formats.
“The minister clarified that Azerbaijan is not a primary trading partner for the Netherlands, moreover, it occupies the 94th place in terms of trade volumes," FAON said, adding that, referring to the footage of the killing of Armenian soldiers during the recent aggression by Azerbaijan, the minister noted that "during the meeting with the ambassador of Azerbaijan at the Dutch MFA, disgust was expressed regarding the video of the killing of Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijani soldiers and urged to conduct an independent investigation and publish its results”.
The Federation of Armenian Organizations in the Netherlands also informed that imposing sanctions against Azerbaijan at this moment, according to Minister Hoekstra, will not contribute to the establishment of peace.
