Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said on his social networks that Ukraine does not intend to maintain a neutral status.
“Ukraine will definitely not remain neutral,” he quotes RIA News.
Reznikov noted that the course towards Euro-Atlantic integration is enshrined in the Ukrainian Constitution.
According to him, the country’s accession to NATO is supported by 70% of Ukrainians.
“The Kremlin lobbyists should not hope that Ukraine will become a "neutral" country. The direction of Euro-Atlantic integration is fixed by the Constitution of Ukraine, and the last application for membership expresses the mood of more than 70 percent of the society, citizens who definitely support and strive to realize Ukraine's right to participate in the Collective Security System,” Reznikov wrote on his Facebook page.
On September 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine is applying to join the North Atlantic Alliance in an expedited manner.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg then said that the decision on the membership of any state is taken by all 30 allies unanimously.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the admission of new countries to the alliance should follow the established procedure.
