The European Union (EU) needs to be reformed. This was announced on Saturday, October 15, by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a speech at the Congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES).
The Chancellor pointed out that in the near future the EU needs to move towards the gradual abolition of the principle of unanimity in decision-making both in foreign policy and in other areas.
“Each country should be heard with its own problems, anything else would be a betrayal of the European idea,” Scholz said.
He also voiced the idea of greater autonomy, including military independence, for EU countries.
The politician also called on European countries to resolve conflicts in financial and migration policies as soon as possible.
Thus, the chancellor noted the need to take measures to reduce illegal migration and, at the same time, ensure the influx of more skilled workers from abroad.
